MUSIC IN THE STUDIO
Intimate Concert Gatherings Amongst Friends Amidst Beauty
Blackfish Creek Oil on linen, 12"x 12" Cammie Watson (2022)
I co-founded MUSIC IN THE STUDIO in 2022 as a container within which to build an ever-expanding network of community through the connective force of music and art. The gatherings are private performances that take place in the vaulted painting studio of my aunt, artist Cammie Watson. The atmosphere is steeped in creativity and new ways of seeing by way of evocative landscape oils and gestural Sumi-e drawings. The events are for friends and friends of friends — by invitation only. Consider this your invitation !!
You (and anyone you know) can GET ON THE GUEST LIST HERE, and we really hope you will add yourself and help spread the word!
During each performance, those who are present (and I believe the exact mixture of people in the room conjures a unique collective ingredient for the evening's unfolding) will be led through a program, specifically designed to invite an 'inside out' experience of classical and contemporary classical music — an experience that originates from a direct response within your own cells to the trajectory of resonance, rather than one that is initiated by intellectual knowledge. To ignite the full power of classical music, I believe we must disentangle it from the need to understand — that is, from a cerebral point of view — although a vague map of the upcoming journey and some hints at its origin story may be alluded to at the start of the evening. The intention is that as a listener, you receive the music directly through your own physical body (i.e. somatic psyche) while in proximity to others who are doing the same. Life is a feeling, after all, and sensorial assimilation is the underpinning for most of what we need know.
